Futuro Informal

Plans and intentions — "going to." The most common future form in spoken BR Portuguese.

The deadline is approaching. I'm going to try to do everything without compromising quality. My partner is going to try for the most senior position at the company. We're going to try to resolve before escalating. The young people on the team are going to try faster and with less fear.

Futuro Formal

Formal future — "shall/will." More common in writing than speech.

Hypotheticals and polite requests — "would."

Perguntei à minha mãe o que ela tentaria se soubesse que ia conseguir. Tentaria tudo que não tentei com medo. O medo foi o único obstáculo real.

My mum used to try something new every year. She used to try piano, embroidery, English — with discipline and without self-judgement. We used to try along sometimes. Today I try to follow her example. Yesterday I tried a difficult recipe and it came out ok. We try the things that matter like this — imperfectly and honestly. Next month, I'm going to try the course I've been postponing for two years. If you try, I will try with you, my sister said. I asked my mum what she would try if she knew she'd succeed. I would try everything I didn't try out of fear. Fear was the only real obstacle.
