Gostar across the tenses
A short story using gostar in multiple tenses
My grandmother used to like everything with a strong smell — coffee, jasmine, cake in the oven. She used to like saying that smell was memory before it happened. We grandchildren used to like hearing that without understanding — and now I understand. Today I like those things too. Yesterday I liked spending the afternoon without a destination and felt her close. We like similar things for reasons that go beyond genetics. This Christmas, I'm going to like being with her. "If you come, you will like the new cake I learned," she promised. I asked what she would most like to do if her body allowed. She answered without hesitation: "I would like to dance. What I like most — just the body that doesn't keep up any more."
