Poder across the tenses
A short story using poder in multiple tenses
Hoje eu posso coisas que antes me pareciam impossíveis.
My mum always said I can do more than I think. I used to be able to hear that in adolescence and think it was mum talk. We children used to be able to do more with her support than without — I only understood later. Today I can do things that seemed impossible to me before. Yesterday I was able to have a difficult conversation with lightness — and that wasn't possible five years ago. We were able to get here because someone believed before us. Next year, I'm going to be able to dedicate more time to what truly matters. If all goes well, I will be able to choose how and with whom I work. I asked my mum what she could do if she could start over. She answered: I could have believed in myself earlier. Everything else I've already managed.
