I carry the day lightly when I can — it's not always. My friend Júlia takes life with a calm I want to learn. We take worries to bed sometimes — and it would be better not to. Good teachers take students further than the content requires.
Pret. Perfeito
Completed past actions — what happened.

Pret. Imperfeito
Ongoing or habitual past — what used to happen or was happening.
— I used to take a packed lunch to work every day. |

Futuro Informal
Plans and intentions — "going to." The most common future form in spoken BR Portuguese.
— I'm going to take a coat — it might get cold. |

The trip is booked and the preparation list is long. I'm going to take fewer clothes than last time — I learned. My friend is going to take her daughter abroad for the first time. We're going to take the essentials and buy the rest there. Those who are going to take more luggage are already stressed.
Futuro Formal
Formal future — "shall/will." More common in writing than speech.

Condicional
Hypotheticals and polite requests — "would."
— I would take more things if the suitcase were bigger. |
— She would take a little while to adapt. |

If the suitcase had infinite space, I would take half the house. My friend would take just the guitar and the charger. We would take life more calmly if we stopped carrying guilt that isn't ours. People would carry more joy in their luggage if they learned to leave weight behind.
Levar across the tenses
A short story using levar in multiple tenses
"Levaria a família," ele respondeu. "O resto é peso."
My dad used to take us to school every day — without fail. He used to drive in silence, radio on, hand on the wheel. We used to take this routine so for granted that we never thanked him properly. Today I take my daughter and understand what he felt. Yesterday I took her to the doctor and was more nervous than she was. We took the fright together and came out better than we went in. Next month, I'm going to take her to meet her grandfather in the countryside. "If the road allows, I will take you both on a drive I'll remember for a long time," he said. I asked my dad what he would take if he had to choose only one thing. "I would take the family," he answered. "The rest is weight."
