Dormir across the tenses
A short story using dormir in multiple tenses
My grandfather used to sleep a siesta of exactly twenty minutes every afternoon. He used to sleep sitting in the rocking chair, with his hat over his face. The others used to sleep in bed — he preferred the veranda. Today I sleep badly and think of him with envy. Last night I slept three and a half hours — the neighbour's baby decided the world should wake up at two in the morning. We sleep in shifts, my husband and I, like sentinels. When this phase passes, I'm going to sleep a whole night without interruption. "God willing, I will sleep like a king as soon as she turns one," I promise myself. I asked my grandfather if he would have slept in bed if he'd had to choose again. He smiled: "I would sleep wherever sleep arrived. The place never mattered — only the peace."
